I have made a decision

Mihalism Technologies, formally Mihalism Inc., and before that Mihalism Images has been around since February of 2006 and has since made a name for itself as a good choice for open source image hosting. It is no secret that it had it struggles, which was made obvious during the summer of 2008, but it has since sprung back. Not with the power it originally held, but we are still a popular choice. I honestly never intended Mihalism Multi Host to be as popular as it has become. The only place that I linked to it in the beginning was on Hotscripts.com, and it has since remained there. Most of the growth can be accredited to the quality of the product which resulted in it as a recommended project for people wanting to enter the image hosting industry.

Sadly though, people change and so does the Internet. Back when I first began work, a service like YouTube was still struggling to make a foothold. Image hosting was the norm when it came to the method to share media, but that has obviously changed with the expansion of the Internet and the higher bandwidth capacities being offered by Internet providers. It is no secret that the industry is not as strong as it once was.

This little history lesson has brought me to this announcement. The announcement that I feel many volunteers who have known me for a while feared. I am stepping down as the owner and developer of Mihalism Technologies and Mihalism Multi Host. Unlike when I returned after the hiatus of 2008, I do not plan on rejoining the project. I used Mihalism Multi Host as a method to teach me various scripting languages and that has been accomplished. As a result, I have accepted work on various other websites that have led me astray.

As a result of this change, I have been obviously neglecting Mihalism Technologies. Back when it first began I answered every question someone would ask and I interacted with the community heavily. Now all I do is read the forum and close my web browser with no time to even type a small response a large percent of the time.

In my place as owner of Mihalism Technologies, I have decided to put two people, not one, in power. These two people have been around since the reopening in Spring of 2009. I believe with all my heart that they can do their best to take care of the community. If you have not figured out by now, the two people I am referring to are Josh and IcyTexx. This decision did not come lightly. There was an extensive list of candidates to pick from. Unfortunately, many do not visit the community anymore.

On March 15, 2010 I will be leaving. Josh and IcyTexx will be briefed on all the information that is necessary to keep the community running. They have helped me well so far to keep it alive, and I believe they are well off enough to continue without me.

Thank you everyone. It has been a fun ride.

The Future of Mihalism Technologies

Mihalism Technologies has been around for several years and has provided many websites with a beginning, but everything must come to an end and unfortunately time is running out for Mihalism Technologies. I have single handedly ran the website with help from many volunteers including Josh, IcyTexx, Anthony, Ahmed, and many more for the entire time that the website has existed, but I am only one person and am also a human who has to prioritize his life. It is obvious I am no longer able to communicate with the community as I did in the beginning providing technical support and help to everyone. I hate to say this but I am considering the closing of Mihalism Technologies. The effort to continually maintain it is something I can no longer deliver. In early January I was approached by Milov Patel about acquiring the website to try and give it a better future, but since our last talks he has began ignoring me for reasons that are not clear to me. I have obviously given all that I could have to the Mihalism Technologies and I have to move on. If I do not end up hearing anything from Milov soon I will most likely come to the decision to shut down or hand Mihalism Technologies over to a trusted volunteer. There is just too much happening for me to continue involvement. I apologize and wish it did not come to this.

It has recently come to my attention that a man has been emailing several Mihalism Multi Host websites that have removed the "Powered by" message from the footer and the person is claiming to be me. Michael, the owner of Mihalism Technologies. Any websites that seen these emails please forward them immediately to michael@mihalism.net. The man in the email is an imposter and I would like to open an investigation to stop these false claims.

Emergency Security Patch

A vulnerability has been found in all sites that run Mihalism Multi Host v5.0.0 or later. It is a result of how Mihalism Multi Host handles album names and how it fails to parse some templates properly. Attached are the patched files for sites that run 5.0.2. Websites that are running the experimental 5.0.3 version will need to download the latest version of the files from our SVN.

If you downloaded Mihalism Multi Host after January 06, 2010 at 03:15 PM EST, then the patch is already applied.

Status Update

As the sole developer for Mihalism Multi Host and the owner of Mihalism Technologies, I thought I would give a status update on what has been happening.

Mihalism Multi Host 5.0.3 is still in development, but considered stable. The only remaining task for it before launching is to finish integration of the built in upgrade system. A preview for 5.0.3 can be found at the development website, and the most recent changes can be checked out from the SVN. I do not have a due date for release because I am currently in development of separate projects as described below.

So, what have Mihalism Technologies and I been up to? Well, two things. Firstly, I am the developer for the new URL Shortening website bt.gd. The service formally used the open source application yourls, but after many troubling situations caused by faulty and poorly coded code, I stepped in and rewrote it from the ground up. It was mostly a favor to the owner, which is a close friend, but I also am doing it in exchange for a free Acer 24inch LCD monitor instead of a monetary return.

Secondly, Mihalism Technologies is a sponsor of the WyldRyde IRC Network. The server discovery.wyldryde.org was donated to them early in October. If interested, connect and chat. This is the IRC network that I am on most frequently, but if you find me I will most likely be too busy to provide support.

Before I forget, I would also like to thank all the helpers of the forum who look after the place when I am not available. You guys are life savers.

Mihalism Multi Forum Host Acquired

I am proud to announce that Mihalism Multi Forum Host has been acquired by a company outside of Mihalism Technologies to take over development of it. This has been done because it is very appearnt that Mihalism Technologies does not have the time or resources required to take away focus from Mihalism Multi Host. Therefore, we are hoping that the new company is able to take over where we left off and make it as great as originally imagined. When the terms of this acquisition were established it was agreed that Mihalism Multi Forum Host would be rebranded and any traces linked back to us would be removed in order to start fresh.

The company is known as Nasutek and is a small startup. Their website can be found at: www.nasutek.com

Mihalism Multi Host v5.0.1

Mihalism Multi Host 5.0.0 is only a couple days old but because it is the first major release of the 5x line there were a couple big bugs and shortcomings compared to 4.0.2. Therefore, this maintenance version is being released. With this version comes major stability improvements and a few new features to help make your Mihalism Multi Host installation even greater.

Download 5.0.1

Mihalism Multi Host 5.0.1 can be downloaded from here.
Upgrading from 4.0.2 or 5.0.0

Mihalism Multi Host 5.0.1 supports all Mihalism Multi Host 4.0.2 and 5.0.0 installs and upgrade is a snap. In fact, as of Mihalism Multi Host 5.0.1 the Mihalism Multi Host upgrader is able to upgrade your installation across multiple versions in one go.

Note: The upgrader has changed since 5.0.0 so reread README.rtf file to ensure you understand the instructions.
